What does it take to be a great teammate?

Whether it is in the workplace, on a sports team, or any other team you participate in during your life. There are some common elements that make great teams and teammates.
When it comes to sports, I am a fish. Growing up land sports were generally not my jam. I swam competitively from the age of 6 until I graduated from college. During college I added Water Polo to the mix. In my mid-twenties I added SCUBA diving and have been fortunate to go on more than 1000 dives all over the world. About 5 years ago I became obsessed with Pickleball. It is a very fun and addictive sport but that is another story.
I recently had the opportunity to go to the tri-dual swim meet last weekend between my alma mater Northwestern University, Purdue University, and the hosts University of Minnesota. It

was nice the meet the new Coach Rachel and sit in the stands and cheer on Cade whose parents came from Houston to watch him swim - true devotion and love!
Fun to cheer them all on and remember my years on the team and my awesome teammates. Thank you. A teammates words and actions carry forward, are inspirational, and contagious. I learned a lot from all of you about what it takes to be a great teammate:
- Hard work pays off
- Support and cheering are contagious
- Compete and do your best every day
- Be unselfish and make the right play
- Be positive (not negative) mindset matters
- Bring solutions, not problems
- Believe in each other and the power of team
- Relish the role you play and embrace it

Some of my teammates from both Swimming and Water Polo I have regularly kept in touch with and others I have not seen since we competed. I learned from each of them and carry forward the inspiration and motivation they gave me to strive to Be the World's Best version of myself.
